Summer Reading Program 2008

Get in the Game, Read!

Registration begins June 2. The program will run from
June 16 through August 9.

 

Get in the Game, Read! - with our Summer Reading Program. It’s easy and all ages can play. Just keep track of your minutes for chances to win great prizes.

 

Play hard! Read and Spin to Win for prizes from meal tickets to bikes. All finishers receive a paperback book, plus Reading Rewards items.

Chess Workshop

Sharpen your chess skills with McHenry area chess champion, Robert Cairone. Learn chess strategy. This workshop series is for children who already know how to play chess. Chess sets will be provided. Children from third grade and up are welcome.

*Lego Beth’s Brick Bonanza

Lego Beth will be here with 500,000 Lego bricks and pieces. Come help build a tower of Lego bricks. Create and design with others. This program is fun, and promotes cooperation, patience, and team building. Children must be age five or older to attend. Attendance is limited, so please register at the Youth Services Desk. You must have a ticket to participate.

 

*Read to the Dog

Have your children ever read to a dog? Would they like to? For six years, the Library has offered the Read to the Dog program. Trained therapy dogs listen as children read. This is a great way for children to practice their reading skills and build their reading confidence. If your child is age six or older and would like to read to one of the dogs, please register at the Youth Services Desk.

Wildlife of McHenry County

Come learn about the wildlife in your backyard. Staff from the McHenry County Conservation District will explain how and where the animals live and how they adapt to changes in their environment. They will also bring a special guest for us to meet.

 

 

Yo-Yo Man

It’s yo-yo time! Professional yo-yo champion Barry North, better known as the Yo-Yo Man, will entertain us with his yo-yo tricks. Learn "Rock the Baby," "Walk the Dog," "Around the World" and an all-time favorite, "Dog Bite!" Barry will also tell us the history of the yo-yo and answer yo-yo questions. This fun show is for children of all ages.
