Youth programs require a CLPL card unless otherwise noted.  Grandparents may use their cards to register grandchildren for programs. 

Registration begins June 2. The program will run from
June 16 through August 9.

"Bored" Games at the Library

Looking for something to do this summer? Join us for Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary or maybe a favorite that you’d like to bring. There will be a different game every other week.

Ames Meeting Room

Sharpen your chess skills with McHenry area chess champion, Robert Cairone. Learn chess strategy. This workshop series is for children who already know how to play chess. Chess sets will be provided. Children from third grade and up are welcome.

Reptiles in the Library? This program is interactive and hands-on blending education and entertainment. Touch and see the creatures you have only read about! The entire family is invited.

The Discovery Club science program, for children in second through fifth grades will explore different science topics. Young scientists will perform experiments and make observations which lead to discovery about the world around us.

Wondering what DDR is all about? Want to play tennis in the Library? Do you want to be a guitar hero? Come find the video game that matches your interest.

Girls, 5 to 8 years old, have you read a "Fancy Nancy" book? Come to our fancy tea party in your most posh outfit. We will play games, eat fancy food and complete a fancy craft. Ooh-la-la!

*Lego Beth’s Brick Bonanza

Lego Beth will be here with 500,000 Lego bricks and pieces. Come help build a tower of Lego bricks. Create and design with others. This program is fun, and promotes cooperation, patience, and team building. Children must be age five or older to attend. Attendance is limited, so please register at the Youth Services Desk. You must have a ticket to participate.

Have your children ever read to a dog? Would they like to? For six years, the Library has offered the Read to the Dog program. Trained therapy dogs listen as children read. This is a great way for children to practice their reading skills and build their reading confidence. If your child is age six or older and would like to read to one of the dogs, please register at the Youth Services Desk.

Join us for popcorn and movies. All ages are welcome. Movie titles and dates will be available at the library.

Wildlife of McHenry County

Come learn about the wildlife in your backyard. Staff from the McHenry County Conservation District will explain how and where the animals live and how they adapt to changes in their environment. They will also bring a special guest for us to meet.

It’s yo-yo time! Professional yo-yo champion Barry North, better known as the Yo-Yo Man, will entertain us with his yo-yo tricks. Learn "Rock the Baby," "Walk the Dog," "Around the World" and an all-time favorite, "Dog Bite!" Barry will also tell us the history of the yo-yo and answer yo-yo questions. This fun show is for children of all ages.
